Because Government IS the Problem… and now you have cholera

Hey, I was once a libertarian, and know some VERY intelligent people who still are–so no offense to sympathizers. But here’s a cute vid on libertarian magic dust. Thanks to Monica Whitley for forwarding.

Hah, I first saw this on Chris Martin’s facebook, but your comment reminded me of your interesting blog.

I loved the video, good evening chuckle, but it is obviously a liiiiittle disingenuous. Libertarianism in most moderate, rational forms, does not equate to Anarchism, and I have never heard any of them argue for an absence of state police, and rarely have I heard any complaints about state roads in general (though their upkeep is a different matter altogether). After having said the obvious, the caricature it paints does hit on some truths (I enjoyed the libertarian magic dust, and the market governed by rational self-interest comments particularly), and was well worth the post.

Very interesting blog, it seems that I’ve been missing out. I hope the semester is going well!

Hey Michael–glad you stopped by!

Indeed, it’s an oversimplified caricature. But there are a few people out there absolutely CONVINCED that the big bad government is to blame for all our ills, that the answer is to cut it waaaaay back, ushering in the inevitable utopia uncoordinated rational self-interest would create. So maybe this is a polite wake up for that select few, and just something funny for the rest of us, including the more serious libertarians :)

Thanks for contributing! Feel free and invited to do so again.

OK, that’s funny.
And yes, a parody.
I think I’d like to see “Dave Chappelle’s Guide to Government.” Wouldn’t you?
:)

Shoot, I’d pay $$ to see Chapelle’s Guide to Govt. He’s hilarious!

I think that if this philosopher thing doesn’t work out I’ll sell Libertarian Magic Dust. I’ll make it out of mystery and hope.

I count myself as a Libertarian, but I don’t think it’s the sort of thing that can happen all at once in a society like ours. You need to have some level of equality in order to have a good Libertarian society, and we don’t have that.

Matt, I’m just giving you notice that I’m stealing this video from you. It pretty much just made my day. And it got your blog in my RSS feeder.

This is hilarious and also interesting. We just had a discussion about this in one of my sociology classes, where even some of the most conservative individuals were able to laugh at the way people fear the very idea of “socialism”, even though it’s everywhere. I really enjoyed this.

:) Glad you enjoyed it, Peter and Brooke. Kudos to the original artists.
